Actually, that would mean that someone in your camp gets hurt. Normally a bear will not be attracted to groups of humans, and would avoid you unless you are encroaching upon a mother bear's territory. Bear's do not normally attack humans, but they have poor eyesight, and do stalk prey on occasion. Your best bet is to make yourself look large, and make sure it is aware that you are human by talking calmly to it. Running away from a bear is not really a good idea, because those fuckers can move. Try climbing a high tree.

They can indeed, but if it is high enough, you should be OK. 10 meters is recommended.
